All Clissold Park Final at Queen's
Club
County Closed
2007
Report by Ali Davis
Lucas Taylor
became the first player ever from HCTC to raise a county
trophy at the Middlesex County Closed event. He won the
10U Boys competition in convincing style when he took on
fellow club mate Jac Davies in the final. It was a
fantastic achievement to have 2 of the club’s players in
the final of this high level event.
It proved that Lucas, who dropped only 6 games in 5
tough matches, is the best 10U boy in the county. Over
the summer he has also been showing that he is a top
competitor at national level. This weekend he is
competing at Center Parcs Junior Grand Prix in
Nottingham, against the 6 top 10U boys in
the country.
Jac Davies has also won a place at this top national
event, which is to be televised by Sky Sports. There are
unlikely to be any other clubs in the country to have 2
players qualify for this top national competition.

Lucas trains under the watchful eye of his coach
Christian Coombs. He has been playing tennis since he
was 5 years old and quickly made his mark when, at the
age of 6, he won the 9U club event. Christian said
“Lucas’ performance over this summer season has been
quite remarkable considering he has a better win:loss
ratio than Roger Federer! He should feel very positive
about what he has achieved, but I know he realises there
is lot more hard work to come if he is to achieve even
more.”
When
asked what inspires him Lucas comments, ‘I enjoy
winning and playing great tennis. My dream is to be the
best I can be, and try very hard to be the best in the
world.’
Over 30 children entered the county closed from
HCTC this year, the most of any club in Middlesex. Every
competitor was given a new club sweatshirt, and many a
positive comment was made about how good the players
looked and how well they all played and behaved.
