Lucas and Jac score Grand Prix success
-
June 2007
Report by Ali Davis
Lucas Taylor notched up
another great win on the national tennis circuit by
winning his third 10U Grand Prix at half term. The
tournament was held at Harpenden in Hertfordshire and
attracted 40 entries from top 10 year olds across the
region. Lucas sailed through the round robin stage of
the tournament, but then faced 3 tough matches on his
way to the final. Here he faced Scott Power of
Hertfordshire, which was a challenging match, but Lucas
held his nerve and went on to win it in straight sets.
This brings his total of tournament wins on the Grand
Prix circuit to 3.
Another player from
Hackney City Tennis Clubs, Jac Davies, did not win his
Grand Prix Tournament at half term, but has, like Lucas,
won 3 previous tournaments, which means he occupies the
number one position on the Grand Prix Leader Board, with
Lucas in joint second.
The coaching panel of
the LTA has also spotted their talents. They were
recently invited to a regional assessment day for top
boys in the South East. As a result of this they were
selected to attend a national assessment at the new
Roehampton Tennis Centre, recently opened by the Queen.
It is a huge achievement for the Hackney Club to have 2
boys playing at this level.
