Lucas Taylor
reaches Finals of Solihull International - July 2007
Report by Jan Coombs
Following in the footsteps of Andy Murray (who won the
tournament 3 times) Lucas Taylor reached the finals of
the 10U Boys Solihull International last weekend.
In
every match played on his way to the final Lucas was up
against the top 10 year olds in the country. He knocked
out the number one seed, Jonathan Burke (8.2) in the
quarterfinals, and another strong player, Sacha Modica
in the semis. In the final Lucas was up against the
very strong Vincent Gillespie of Scotland. Vincent
played an impressive match, and although he fought hard,
Lucas was unable to convert on crucial game points. He
eventually lost 6-1,6-1. Although disappointed on the
day, Lucas had put in a high performance all week,
proving that he is one of the very top 10 year olds in
the country at the moment.
The club took 5 players to the
tournament, all of who put in some good performances,
but found the standard tough. It was a very good
learning experience and one from which they all gained a
lot, both from playing, and from watching the top
players in the country at 10U, 12U and 14U level.
Players who attended were Callum Poland Smith, Lucas
Taylor, Jac Davies, Savannah Sills and Ella Faria. Big
thank you to the coaches, Christian and Gino, who put up
with the kids all week, and to Caren, who had to put up
with everyone!!
